The Balkans XXI– the Bulgarian vision
On 13th February at The University of National and World Economy was held a round table “The Balkans XXI – the Bulgarian vision”. Many diplomats, students, experts and analysts were invited. The event was organized by The International Relations Research Students Association, The Students Diplomatic Club, The Bulgarian Diplomatic Society, The Economy and International Relations Institute, International Relations National Organization and The University of National and World Economy.
Sixteen participants had the opportunity to present their reports in about ten minutes. Their thesis provoked long and interesting debate between the participants and the members of the jury.
The jury consisted of Ambassador Liubomir Kiuchukov, Director of The Economy and International Relations Institute, Ambassador Rakovski Lashev, Ambassador Valentin Radomirski and Dinko Dinkov, professor from The University of National and World Economy.
The event was divided into three parts – ‘The Balkans in the global world’, ‘The Attention was paid to Macedonia, its desire to integrate in the EU and its ties with Bulgaria.Balkans’ regionalism – necessity or utopia’ and ‘Bulgaria and its Balkans neighbors’. The participants analyzed diversity of themes connected with the economic and social life in the region. Some of the issues discussed were about prejudices between the nations, about the national identity and the process of integration of the Western Balkans in the European Union.
The jury assessed Anina Yovkova’s report on ‘The problem of the national identity’ as the best. She is first year students at The University of National and World Economy. Four more members received special certificates for their participation and three will have the opportunity their reports to be posted in the magazine ‘International Relations’.
