A Discussion with Her Excellency Latifa Aharbash, ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bulgaria
Her Excellency Latifa Aharbash was a guest of the IRRSA. She used to hold very respectful positions in her past – rector of the High journalism institute, general director of the Moroccan National radio and National foreign affairs and communications secretary. The event was attended by a lot of students from different universities in Sofia and the subject was: „Morocco’s path: Evolution and not a revolution“. Her Excellency Aharbash turned the students’ attention towards extremely important issues such as the fundamentals of the stability in a county, the role of the parties, the media and the civil society.
The fruitful discussion left a lot of non-answerable questions as well as a lot of conclusions. The position of Morocco in the region is predestined by the fact, that this is the only country not affected by the „Arab spring“. Amongst the reasons why this is so are the long time traditions when it comes to the political pluralism, the great role of the civil society, the non-government organizations as well as the organizations that deal with gender equality.
The students had the chance to ask a lot of questions about Morocco, the Islamic influence in politics, the media and its freedom. Even the issue „Ukraine – revolution or evolution“ was addressed.
The whole time the focus was set on the fact, that the most important thing in a country is the freedom and the dignity of its citizens. Her Excellency Aharbash expressed her amazement from the young people in Bulgaria and the fact that they demand the best, because „this is the most reliable sign of democracy“.
