An online debate on “Perspectives and challenges for the Bulgarian foreign policy” was held on March 23, 2021. The event was broadcasted live on IRRSA’s Facebook page and was organized alongside our friends and partners “Ego Politico”, “Students’ Club of Political Science “, “Students’ Diplomatic Club” and “Policy and Citizens’ Observatory: Migration, Digitalization, Climate”. The event was opened by VeselinTashev - IRRSA’s Chairman, VeselinGeorgiev - member of IRRSA’s Supervisory Board, and BozhidarMiladinov - Chairman of IRRSA, for the term 2018-2019.
The debate’s participants - Alexander Sidi of PP “IMRO - Bulgarian National Movement”, Georg Georgiev - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the representative of CP “GERB” & “SDS”, DanailGeorgiev of “Stand up! Mafia out!”, DimitarDimitrov of CP “Democratic Bulgaria” and TeodoraOvcharova of CP “BSP for Bulgaria”, presented their views and goals on the panels:
• The European integration of the South Balkans
• The future relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia
• The mechanism for the recovery and resilience of the EU
• The EU’s Migration and Asylum pact and the Bulgarian stance on it
The topics of the “Green Deal” and the future of the “Maritza-East” TPP; the diversification of Bulgarian energy sources; drawing up a collective energy policy with the European Union, the Pact on Migration and neighborhood relations with the Republic of Northern Macedonia were touched upon.
This was followed by questions and remarks from the panelists themselves on each of the individual topics. There was a dispute between some of the representatives, but this is how an interesting and useful discussion was created for the participants and the spectators.
