On 24th March a discussion about the European values and the future of Union took place at the University of National and World Economy. Official guest was the French ambassador in Sofia H. E. Xavier Lapeyre de Cabanes. His lecture outlined such challenges facing the European union as the rise of the nationalistic parties in the eve of the European elections, the Ukraine crisis and the basis of values that are fundament of the union.
The second part of the event the guest had the opportunity to ask questions. Issues as the lack of trust to the institutions among the Europeans, expectations for the results of the elections and the attitude to the annexation of the Crimea peninsula by Russia were noted.The discussion was organized by the International Relations Research Students Association in collaboration with the Students Council at UNWE and The French Institute in Sofia. The meeting attended the Deputy Rector Prof. Veselka Pavlova, the head of the ‘International Politics and Economy’ Department Prof. Antoaneta Vasileva and Antoan Shotarov, Chairman of the Students Council. The chairperson of IRRSA expressed her hope for future collaboration with the French Institute in Sofia.
